Front brake pads, replacingremove wheels
CAUTION: When re-using brake pads, label them before removal to prevent accidentally exchanging inside pads with outside ones. and pads on one caliper with the other. When pad positions are changed. uneven braking can result.
disconnecting wheel speed sensor connector by pressing on spring (lower arrow). and pulling out connector in direction indicated (upper arrow)
remove upper bolt cap (top arrow)
raise connector locating tab carefully using screwdriver (lower left arrow)'
twist connector 90° to left or right and remove from holder
release wiring for wear indicator from lower bolt cap
remove lower bolt cap (lower right arrow)
pry brake pad retaining spring from caliper using a screwdriver (arrow)
remove both brake caliper guide bolts (arrow)
position and secure caliper so weight of caliper does not pull against brake hose
remove brake pads
press piston back into brake caliper housing. using caliper press US 1023/4
CAUTION: Pushing against the piston will force brake fluid out of the caliper and into the reservoir. To prevent overflowing of the reservoir. siphon out some of the fluid with equipment used for this purpose only. Remove brake fluid carefully, as it will damage painted surfaces.
WARNING: Brake fluid is poisonous. Do not siphon brake fluid by mouth.
install inner brake pad into caliper (left arrow)
position wiring in caliper for brake pad wear indicator
position outer brake pad to brake pad carrier (right arrow)
attach caliper to brake pad carrier with guide bolts
tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
install both caps
secure wiring connector in retainer
route wiring for wear indicator, passing it through hook of lower cap
connect wear indicator connector
install retaining spring into caliper
Note: Once pads are installed. depress brake pedal firmly several times while vehicle is stationary to seat brake pads in their normal operating position.
fill brake fluid reservoir to MAX mark.
