Valve Body, Removing/Installing
Removing- remove crossmember (arrow)
- remove front exhaust pipe with catalytic converters (see Repair Group 26)
- release catch on 8-pin connector with a screwdriver (arrow) by pushing upward to turn catch to left
- pull connector and separate from transmission
- remove heat shield from oil pan
- remove selector lever cable and support bracket (arrow) at transmission
- remove drain plug from oil pan (arrow) and drain ATF
- remove ATF filler line -1- from oil pan
- remove oil pan and loose brackets -2-
- remove screws (arrows) and remove filter screen
- loosen screws (arrows) and remove valve body with wiring harness
- disconnect Vehicle Speed Sensor (G 68) from wiring harness
Installing
Install valve body in reverse order of removal and note the following:
^ selector slide (arrow) must be engaged in detent disc
^ thread nut onto wiring harness connector before installing oil pan
^ secure 8-pin connector by turning catch clockwise with a screwdriver
^ white markings on 8-pin connector housings must align when installed
^ before installing oil pan, ensure that magnets for trapping metal particles are installed
^ always replace the oil pan gasket, drain plug seal, and O-rings for ATF strainer and filler line
^ fill with ATF see Repair Manual Group 32 for filling capacities and checking procedures
Centering valve body:
- hand-tighten valve body retaining screws
- set lever on multifunction switch to position 1
- move valve body so that it contacts the detent disc
- tighten valve body retaining screws to specification in sequence, working from inside to outside
Tightening torques
Oil pan to transmission 6 N-m (53 in.lb.)
Drain plug to oil pan 40 N-m (30 ft.lb.)
ATF filler line to oil pan 40 N-m (30 ft.lb.)
Oil strainer to valve body 8 N-m (71 in.lb.)
Valve body to transmission 8 N-m (71 in.lb.)
Nut for wiring harness to trans 20 N-m (15 ft.lb.)
Heat shield to oil pan 9 N-m (80 in.lb.)
Selector cable bracket to trans 10 N-m (7 ft.lb.)
