Subject:
Change to "Nippondenso" A/C Compressors
Model(s):
A4 1996-->
Since the start of production, A4 models have been equipped with "Zexel" A/C compressors. A new "Nippondenso" A/C compressor will be installed as a running change during m.y. 1996.
This Bulletin includes new and revised Repair Manual pages covering the Nippondenso A/C compressor, which will be integrated with the next Repair Manual update. Refer to the "Contents".
All references to existing Repair Manual pages are valid. References to new information in this Bulletin refer to the Technical Bulletin page number, highlighted in bold type.
Important highlights:
^ Nippondenso compressors are not equipped with A/C compressor speed sensor -G111-. Instead, the A/C clutch for Nippondenso compressors incorporates a thermo-fuse in the magnetic coil that interrupts current to the coil in the event that excessive load causes the A/C compressor to overheat.
^ The A/C control head -E87- is now coded to indicate compressor type (Zexel or Nippondenso). Before proceeding with A/C system troubleshooting, always confirm that the A/C control head is properly coded.
^ To allow for correct A/C control head cooling on vehicles equipped with the Nippondenso compressor, an A/C control head identified by a part number index "H" or higher must be used.
^ Nippondenso and Zexel compressor drive belts are different. Always check current parts information for up-to-date part numbers.
