Preparation For Windshield Installation
NOTES:
- When reusing an undamaged window, cut the remaining adhesive sealing material on the window and flange evenly using a carpet knife, but do not remove the adhesive completely.
- Leftover adhesive material is required as a base for better adhesion of the new adhesive sealing material.
- Keep surface free of dirt and grease.
- If the window flange is damaged during the removal procedure, the paint structure should be repaired, and if necessary, corrosion prevention measures should be carried out.
- Areas with residual adhesive bead must not be treated with the cleaning solution and primer.
Reworked (replaced) Windshield Flange
- Apply 1-component primer LGF 008 001 A2 to the bare metal.
- After priming, apply top coat with hardener to appropriate area.
NOTE: Top coat must be hardened before primer is applied.
- After paint application, the improved area must be newly cleaned and primed as appropriate using glass/paint primer D 009 200 02.
CAUTION: Glass/lacquer primer D 009 200 02 is electrically conductive and must never be applied to bare aluminum. CONTACT CORROSION.
All
- Clean new window all around adhesive area using glass cleaner.
Applying Primer
NOTE: Ceramic application on window is not primer. Before applying adhesive sealing materials, primer must always be applied to new windows.
- Apply primer - 2 - evenly in one motion using applicator - 1 -.
- Begin application with felt fully saturated.
- Drying time approx. 10 minutes.
- Primer dimension - a -: 20 mm (3/4 in.)
- Apply primer to center of adhesive sealing material.
NOTE: Do not touch up primer strip until after primer has thoroughly dried.
Applying Primer And Adhesive Bead To Straight Edge Of Windshield
1 - Adhesive bead
2 - Primer
3 - Window
- Dimension - a - = 8 mm
- Dimension - b - = 12 mm
- Dimension - c - = 6 mm
Applying Primer And Adhesive Bead To Curved Portions Of Windshield
- On new window, copy contour of adhesive bead at lower window corners from removed window.
Distance of adhesive bead (center) to lower window edge at corner - a - = 20 mm.
NOTE: Allow adhesive bead to come within 6 mm of both side and lower window edges.
- If there is no molded nozzle available, a nozzle can be cut to shape as shown.
Dimension - a -: 12 mm
NOTES:
- The cross section thickness of the adhesive bead is determined by the dimension of the opening in the nozzle tip and the rate of application.
- Reduce the thickness of the adhesive bead by the dimension of the residual material on the window and the window flange.
Installing Windshield
- Apply adhesive sealing material all around as shown in illustration.
- Adhesive bead width: 8 mm
- Distance between center of adhesive bead and edge of windshield: 6 mm
- Attach spacers - 3 - (5x) to upper window edge at uniform intervals inside adhesive bead - 1 -, starting at corner as shown in diagram.
- Glue spacers (3x) on lower window edge according to markings on windshield - 2 -.
- Using two double suction cups, install window in window opening.
- Align windshield at sides.
- Spacing between edge of window and roof frame must be 7 mm.
- Spacing to retaining clamps must be at least 1 mm.
- Press cover profile into retaining clips.
- Secure window glass in windshield opening using adhesive tape during curing process.
- After curing time has elapsed, check for leaks.
- Adhere stickers on windshield (e.g. for airbag) in same position on new windshield.
Placement of "Caution- Safety Information" Sticker:
- Dimension - a - = 16 mm
- Dimension - b - = 19 mm
