Lock Carrier, Service Position

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Guide rods (T10228)






On vehicles with distance regulation (ACC), note the following.

If the bumper is removed and installed or changes are made to the ACC bracket, distance regulation adjustment must be carried out.

Note the following on vehicles with an infrared camera (R212).

It is necessary to perform a calibration if the bumper was removed and then installed again or if changes were made to the radiator grille.

For the Service position, no lines and/or circuits are disconnected or opened, for example engine cooling system, A/C system, etc.

When installing the lock carrier, make sure that no lines or cables get pinched or kinked at the connecting points.

Guide Pins (T10228) are installed in free threads at inner left and right.

Service Position:

- Disconnect battery.

- Remove the front bumper. Refer to => [ Front Bumper Cover ] Front Bumper Cover

- Remove the top lock carrier cover => [ Removing the lock carrier cover ] Removal and Replacement.

- Remove the seal on the hood near the lock carrier.

- Disconnect the engine hood cable at the coupling.=> [ Release cable coupling ] Hood Release Cable Assembly Overview

- Remove the hose from the coolant reservoir.

- Disconnect the headlamp connectors.

- On vehicles with charge air cooler, pressure hoses must also be disconnected.

- Remove upper right or left bolts - 1 - from the longitudinal member

- Install the left and right guide rods (T10228) into the open thread.

- Remove the remaining bolts - 1 - and - 2 - from the longitudinal member and from the lower longitudinal member.

- Remove the bolts - 3 - and - 4 - from the upper longitudinal member and the fender flange.

- Remove the bolts - 6 - from the fender brace.

- Remove lock carrier without stretching wires forward on guide pins.

When removing lock carrier, wiring must not be pinched or kinked.

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

After installing, check the headlamp setting; adjust if necessary.

Insert the guide pins (T10228)






- Install the guide rods on the upper mount into the longitudinal member as illustrated.

Loosen the coolant hose on the reservoir






- The connection on the reservoir must be removed before the lock carrier can be pulled forward.

- Seal off the opening in the reservoir with a plug.
