Water Pump: Service and Repair






Tool Required:
J 36660 Torque Angle Meter
NOTICE: When adding coolant, it is important that you use DEX COOL TM (orange-colored, silicate-free) coolant meeting GM Specification 6277M. If silicated coolant is added to the system. premature engine, heater core or radiator corrosion may result. In addition, the engine coolant will require change sooner-at 50,000km (30,000 miles) or 24 months.

Remove or Disconnect
1. Engine coolant.
2. Coolant recovery reservoir.
3. Serpentine belt.
4. Power steering pump pulley.
5. Coolant pump pulley bolts.
6. Bolts from coolant pump.
7. Coolant pump.
Clean
^ Coolant pump mating surfaces.

Install or Connect
1. Gasket and coolant pump.
2. Bolts to coolant pump.
Tighten
A. Long bolts to 30 N.m (22 lbs. ft.).
B. Short bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb. ft.) + 80° using J 36660.

3. Coolant pump pulley bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 13 N.m (115 lb. in.).

4. Power steering pump pulley.
5. Serpentine belt.
6. Coolant recovery reservoir.
7. Engine coolant.
Inspect
^ For leaks.
