Water Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers
- J 36660 Torque Angle Meter





1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
2. Reposition the accessory wiring junction block.
3. Loosen water pump pulley bolts.
4. Remove accessory drive belt.
5. Remove water pump pulley.





6. Remove power steering pump mounting bolts and reposition.
7. Remove bolts from water pump.
8. Remove water pump.
9. Clean the water pump mating surfaces.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the gasket and water pump.
2. Install the bolts to the water pump using the J 36660.
^ Tighten the long bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) plus 40 degrees
^ Tighten the short bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) plus 80 degrees.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install the water pump pulley, do not tighten the bolts.
4. Install the power steering pump with mounting bolts.
5. Install the accessory drive belt.
6. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.)
7. Install the accessory wiring junction block.
8. Fill the cooling system.
