Water Pump: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging.
2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
4. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
5. Remove the water pump pulley.





6. Remove the water pump mounting bolts (1, 2).





7. Remove the water pump.
8. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure





1. Using a new gasket, install the water pump on the engine.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the water pump bolts (1, 2).
- Tighten the short bolts (1) to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten the long bolts (2) to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the water pump pulley and bolts.
- Tighten the bolts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.).
4. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
5. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging.
6. Fill the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
7. Inspect for coolant leaks. Refer to Cooling System Leak Testing.
