Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair
ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Disconnect the evaporator tube from the retainer.
3. Remove the evaporator tube retainer.
4. Remove the A/C compressor hose to accumulator nut.
5. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
6. Loosen the accumulator tube nut.
7. Disconnect the accumulator tube from the accumulator.
8. Remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.
9. Remove the accumulator from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Add the proper amount of refrigerant oil to the accumulator.
2. Install the accumulator to the bracket.
3. Install the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
4. Connect the accumulator tube to the accumulator.
5. Install the accumulator tube nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).
6. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
7. Install the A/C compressor hose to accumulator nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).
8. Install the evaporator tube retainer.
9. Connect the evaporator tube to the retainer.
10. Recharge the A/C system.
11. Leak test the component fittings using the J 39400-A.
