Forward Servo Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Power Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement in Power Steering System.
3. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the rack and pinion and hang from the exhaust pipe. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement in Power Steering.
4. Remove the power steering return hose from the rack and pinion and hang from the exhaust pipe. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement in Power Steering.
5. Support the Transaxle with a transaxle support stand.
6. Remove the rear transaxle mount and bracket bolts then position the mount and bracket aside. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Rear .
7. Position a drain pan under the forward servo cover.
8. Using a long screwdriver in order to pry against the vehicle frame. Hold the servo assembly compressed.
9. Remove the 3 bolts attaching the servo cover to the transaxle case.
10. Remove the long screwdriver. The servo assembly will push the servo cover out. If the servo cover does not push out, tap it with a rubber mallet.
11. Remove the forward servo cover O-ring.
12. Remove the servo piston assembly.
13. Remove the servo spring.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the servo spring.
2. Install the servo piston assembly.
3. Install the forward servo cover O-ring.
4. Install the forward servo cover.
5. Using a long screwdriver in order to pry against the vehicle frame. Hold the servo assembly compressed.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
6. Install the 3 forward servo cover attaching bolts.
Tighten the forward servo cover attaching bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
7. Remove the drain pan from under the forward servo cover.
8. Align the rear transaxle mount and bracket then Install the mount and bracket bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Rear .
9. Remove the transaxle support stand.
10. Install the power steering pressure hose. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement in Power Steering.
11. Install the power steering return hose. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement in Power Steering.
12. Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Power Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement in Power Steering System.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Fill the transaxle to the proper level. Refer to Fluid Capacity Specifications .
15. Inspect the transaxle fluid level.
