Expansion Block/Orifice Tube: Service and Repair

EXPANSION (ORIFICE) TUBE REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator cover.
3. Loosen the line fitting at the expansion tube location.




4. Separate the evaporator hose at the expansion tube location.




5. Remove the expansion tube from the evaporator hose.
6. Remove and discard the O-rings from the evaporator hose.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the new O-ring to the evaporator hose.
2. Install the new expansion tube.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that the short screen and arrow face the evaporator.




3. Connect the evaporator hose.

Tighten the fitting to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




4. Position the evaporator hose to the accumulator cover and press to engage.
5. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
6. Leak test the fittings of the A/C component using the J 39400-A.
