Housing Assembly HVAC: Service and Repair



HVAC MODULE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Remove the IP carrier support. Instrument Panel (IP) - Carrier Support Replacement

2. Remove the air distribution duct. Service and Repair

3. Remove the air inlet assembly. Air Inlet Assembly Replacement

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from module.

5. Lower the engine.

NOTE: Do not remove the engine, just lower the sub-frame and powertrain assembly to gain access to the evaporator housing, using the Engine Replacement procedure. Removal and Replacement

6. Disconnect the A/C lines from the evaporator core.

7. Remove the heater hoses from heater core. Heater Hoses Replacement

8. Remove the blower motor. Blower Motor Replacement





9. Remove the evaporator drain.





10. Remove the evaporator rubber barrier cover.

11. Remove the heater and evaporator module retaining nuts.

12. Remove the heater and evaporator module assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the heater and evaporator module assembly.

NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

2. Install the heater and evaporator module retaining nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 13 Nm (10 lb ft).

3. Install the evaporator rubber barrier cover.





4. Install the blower motor. Blower Motor Replacement





5. Install the air distribution duct. Service and Repair

6. Install the air inlet housing. Air Inlet Assembly Replacement

7. Install the evaporator drain.

8. Raise the engine. Removal and Replacement

9. Connect the evaporator hose assembly to the evaporator core.

Tighten
Tighten the evaporator hose assembly to 20 Nm (15 lb. ft.).

10. Install the IP carrier support. Instrument Panel (IP) - Carrier Support Replacement

11. Recharge the A/C system. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging

12. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A.
