Front Lower

Lower Control Arm Replacement

Tools Required
^ J43828 Ball Joint Separator

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel.
3. Remove the stabilizer shaft link.
4. Remove the road sensing suspension link from the lower control arm.





5. Remove the lower ball joint cotter pin (1) and retaining nut (2).





6. Using J43828 separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.





7. Remove the lower control arm mounting nuts and bolts.
8. Remove the lower control arm.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the lower control arm to frame.

Important: Do not tighten the control arm nuts at this time. The weight of the vehicle must be supported by the control arms, so that the vehicle design trim height is obtained before tightening the control arm mounting nuts.





2. Install the lower control arm bolts and nuts.





3. Position the lower ball joint stud in the steering knuckle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Important: Do not loosen nut to install cotter pin.

4. Install the lower ball joint retaining nut (2).
Tighten the lower ball joint stud nut to 10 Nm (88 inch lbs.). Then tighten the nut an additional 150 degrees. Do not tighten more than an additional 60 degrees for cotter pin insertion.
5. Install the cotter pin (1).
6. Install the road sensing suspension.
7. Install the stabilizer shaft link.
8. Install the tire and wheel.
9. Lower the vehicle
10. Joist the vehicle and tighten the lower control arm nuts.
Tighten the front lower control arm nut to 157 Nm (116 ft. lbs.).
