Model and Year: 1984 CELEBRITY STATION WAGON
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
Some 1984 Celebrity station wagon luggage carriers may present difficulties with installation and/or fore and aft adjustment of the cross rails. This condition may be due to long cross rails or burrs on the plate nuts, or both.
On luggage racks which exhibit the above conditions, the following is recommended:
1. Disassemble the luggage carrier and measure the cross rail chord length. (The chord length is the straight line distance such as the length of the string of a bow.)
The chord length should be 918.5 mm (36.16 inches).
2. On those cross rails that have a chord length of 924.5 mm (36.4 inches), 6 mm should be sawed from one end of the cross rail. Redrill the 6 mm (7/32 inch) on the underside of the rail 10 mm from the end of the rail to the center of the drill hole and on the same center line as the original hole.
3. With the plate nuts in position, the sliders should move freely in the side rails. If a slider binds, the burrs on the top and bottom edge of the plate nut should be filed down until the slider does move freely.
4. Reassemble the luggage carrier as shown on the instruction sheets.
The following is a list of the screws and nuts used in the roof luggage carrier package.
