Compressor Clutch Does Not Engage
Motor idling and temperature outside car at 60°F or higher Set Mode Selector Switch to MAX and Temperature Lever to COLD.1. Measure voltage to ground at the DK GRN/YEL wire (Terminal A) of the A/C Compressor Clutch.
Compressor Clutch Voltages:
A/C Mode Selector in MAX
^ If the voltage at the DK GRN/YEL wire is incorrect proceed to Step 3.
^ If Battery voltage is present at the BLK wire check for an open in the wiring to ground (wire 150).
2. Temporarily ground the BLK wire (Terminal B) with a fused jumper.
^ If clutch does not engage and connector pins are not loose replace the Compressor Clutch.
^ If clutch engages with the fused jumper connected, check for an open in the wiring to ground (wire 150).
3. Measure voltage to ground at terminals A and B of the A/C Low Pressure Cut-Out Switch and terminals A and B of the Pressure Cycling Switch.
Pressure Cycling Switch Voltages:
A/C Mode Selector in MAX, (Pressure Cycling Switch)
^ If both voltages are correct, check for an open in the DK GRN/WHT wire (959) to S135 and the DK GRN/YEL wire (959) between S135 and the A/C Compressor Clutch.
^ If voltage at the DK GRN/WHT wire (959) on terminal A is incorrect check whether Pressure Cycling Switch is open. If it is, measure refrigerant pressure as described in Troubleshooting Hints. If refrigerant pressure is normal replace the Pressure Cycling Switch.
A/C Low Pressure Cut-Out Switch Voltages:
A/C Mode Selector in MAX, (Low Pressure Cut-Out Switch)
^ If voltage at terminal A is incorrect proceed to step 4.
^ If voltage at terminal B is incorrect check whether A/C Low Pressure Cut-Out Switch is open. If it is, measure refrigerant pressure as described under Troubleshooting Hints. If refrigerant pressure is normal replace the A/C Low Pressure Cut-Out Switch.
4. Measure the voltage to ground at terminal E and C of the Control Assembly.
Control Assembly Voltages:
Control Assembly
^ If voltages are correct, check for an open in the LT GRN and BLK wires (66) between terminal C and terminal A of the A/C Low Pressure Cut-Out Switch.
^ If voltage at terminal C only is incorrect, replace the Control Assembly.
^ If voltage at terminal E is incorrect, check the A/C Fuse.
