Model and Year:
1986 CHEVROLET SPECTRUM WITH 1.5L ENGINE

To: All Chevrolet Dealers

General Motors and the Environmental Protection Agency have determined that certain 1986 Chevrolet Spectrum model vehicles with 1.5L engines may exceed carbon monoxide (CO) Federal Emission Standards. Vehicles are affected as follows depending on transmission type and state of registration:

Manual:
Will not pass high altitude emission standards (applies only to vehicles registered in Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah).

Automatic:
Will not pass Federal Emission Standards (applies to vehicles registered in all states except California).

To correct this condition, dealers are to install a new PROM in affected vehicles. Automatic transmission equipped vehicles will also have the spark delay valve replaced.
