Subject: PRODUCT CAMPAIGN 87C18 POWER STEERING PUMP SUPPORT BRACE
Model and Year: 1987 CHEVROTLET CAMARO EQUIPPED WITH 2.8L V6 (RPO LB8, VIN CODE S) AND POWER STEERING
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
General Motors has determined that some 1987 Chevrolet Camaros may experience a fracture of the power steering pump support brace. This condition can in turn lead to possible fracture of the power steering pump mounting bracket and/or loss of the serpentine accessory drive belt. Loss of the serpentine drive belt would result in loss of air conditioning (if equipped), generator, power steering assist and engine water pump operation.
To correct this condition, the vehicle will be inspected for the correct power steering pump support brace and, if necessary, a new design brace will be installed. The power steering pump mounting bracket will also be replaced on all vehicles requiring the new design brace.
