Cylinder Heads
REVISED CYLINDER HEAD BOLT INSTALLATION
(Vehicles with 3.1L VIN J, or 3.4L VIN E engines only.)

This bulletin is being revised to include a Notice advising that the cylinder head bolts are NOT TO BE RE-USED. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 02-06-01-003A.
CYLINDER HEAD
Tool Required: J 36660 Torque Angle Meter Right
RIGHT SIDE
Install or Connect
1. Cylinder head gasket (112).
2. Cylinder head (113).
Notice: This component uses torque-to-yield bolts. When servicing this component, do not re-use the bolts. New torque-to-yield bolts must be installed. Re-using used torque-to-yield bolts will not provide proper bolt torque and clamp load. Failure to install NEW torque-to-yield bolts may lead to engine damage.
3. NEW Cylinder head bolts (115).
- Tighten the NEW cylinder head bolts to 60 Nm (44 lb ft) in the order shown. Use the J 36660-A torque angle meter in order to rotate the cylinder head bolts an additional 95 degrees.
4. Pencil brace bracket bolts.

Install or Connect
1. Cylinder head gasket (112).
2. Cylinder head (113).
Notice: This component uses torque-to-yield bolts. When servicing this component, do not re-use the bolts. New torque-to-yield bolts must be installed. Re-using used torque-to-yield bolts will not provide proper bolt torque and clamp load. Failure to install NEW torque-to-yield bolts may lead to engine damage.
3. NEW Cylinder head bolts (115).
- Tighten the NEW cylinder head bolts to 60 Nm (44 lb ft) in the order shown. Use the J 36660-A torque angle meter in order to rotate the cylinder head bolts an additional 95 degrees.
4. Engine coolant temperature sensor (114).
Apply teflon sealant GM p/n 1052080 to threads of sensor (114).
- Tighten coolant temperature sensor (114) to 13 Nm (115 lb. in.).
5. Engine lift bracket (200) and bolts (201).
- Tighten Bolts (201) to 50 Nm (37 lb. ft.).
6. Oil level indicator tube nut (47).
- Tighten Nut (47) to 21 Nm (15 lb. ft.).
7. Power steering pump bracket (38), nut (39) and bolt (37).
- Tighten Bolt (37) to 25 Nm (18 lb. ft.).
- Tighten Nut (39) to 50 Nm (37 lb. ft.).
