Timing Chain and Sprocket



TOOLS REQUIRED: J 22888-20 Crankshaft sprocket Puller J 5590 Crankshaft Sprocket Installer.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Crankcase front cover. Service and Repair

Timing Marks:








3. Align the crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket timing marks with alignment tabs on timing chain tensioner.
4. Timing chain tensioner bolt.
5. Camshaft sprocket bolt.
6. Camshaft sprocket and timing chain.
7. Torx© bolt and tensioner assembly.
8. Crankshaft sprocket using tool J 22888.

CAUTION: Timing chain tensioner is spring loaded and requires some care when installing.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Crankshaft sprocket using tool J 5590.
2. Compress tensioner spring, and using a suitable tool (cotter pin, nail) insert tool into hole (A).
3. Tensioner and bolts, but do not tighten.





4. Align the crankshaft sprocket timing mark, the stamped circle, with the tab on the timing chain tensioner.
5. Align the camshaft sprocket timing mark, the 8 mm hole, with the tab on the timing chain tensioner.
6. Install the camshaft sprocket and the timing chain.

7. Camshaft sprocket bolt.

TIGHTEN
^ Tensioner bolts to 23 Nm (17 lbs. ft.).
^ Camshaft sprocket bolt to 130 Nm (96 lbs. ft.).

8. Remove tool used to hold tensioner spring compressed.
9. Crankcase front cover. Service and Repair
10. Negative battery cable.
