Brake Pedal Assy: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the I/P lower trim panel.





3. Disconnect the accelerator pedal sensor module electrical connector.
4. Remove the Bose(tm) Module.
5. Remove the retainer, washer, and power booster pushrod from the brake pedal pin.
6. Reposition the dash isolation mat.





7. Remove the pivot bolt and nut.





8. Remove the brake pedal and all associated mounting parts.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Lubricate the bushings, pivot bolt, and all friction parts with Delco Brake Lube, or equivalent.
2. Install the brake pedal and all the associated mounting parts.
3. Install the pivot bolt and nut.
- Tighten the pivot nut 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement, or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and system.

4. Install dash isolation mat to it's original position.
5. Install the pushrod, the washer and the retainer to the brake pedal pin. Rotate the retainer to assure that it is snapped into position on the pin
6. Install the Bose(tm) module.
7. Connect the accelerator pedal sensor module connector.
8. Install the I/P lower trim panel.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
- Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
