Brake Pad: Service and Repair





REMOVAL PROCEDURE
^ Tools Required
- J26900-1 Outside Micrometer

1. Siphon two-thirds of the fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
2. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
4. Position the C-clamp around the outer pad and caliper. Tighten the clamp until the piston bottoms in its bore.
5. Remove the two caliper mounting bolts.





6. Remove the caliper (2) from the caliper carrier. Suspend the caliper with a wire (1) in order to prevent damage to the brake hose.





7. Remove the pads (4) from the caliper carrier.






8. Remove the anti-rattle springs from the caliper carrier (1).
9. Inspect the brake pads for corrosion and wear. Replace the brake pads if such conditions exist.
10. Measure the brake pads for wear. Use a J26900-1 in order to measure the thickness of the brake pad. If pad thickness is less than 6 mm (.24 in), replace the pad.





INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install two anti-rattle springs to the caliper carrier.






2. Install the pads to the caliper carrier.
3. Lubricate the caliper pins with silicone grease.






NOTICE: Refer to Service Precautions.

4. Install the caliper to the caliper carrier. Secure with two caliper mounting bolts.
^ Tighten the caliper mounting bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) .

5. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Fill the master cylinder fluid reservoir.
