Water Pump: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.

3. Disconnect the coolant fan electrical connectors.
4. Drain the cooling system.
5. Lower the vehicle.

6. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
7. Disconnect the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.

8. Remove the air intake duct resonator.

9. Remove the outlet hose from the water outlet.

10. Remove the inlet hose from the coolant pump.

11. Remove the air cleaner bolts.
12. Remove the air cleaner / upper radiator support.

13. Remove the inlet hose (1) from the radiator.

14. Remove the electric engine coolant fans.
15. Remove the accessory drive belt.

16. Remove the drive belt tensioner pulley from the coolant pump.

17. Remove the throttle body heater outlet hose from the radiator.

18. Remove the coolant pump bolts.

19. Remove the coolant pump.
20. Remove the coolant pump gaskets.
21. Clean all gasket mating surfaces, also clean the water pump bolts.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the coolant pump and gaskets to the engine block.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the coolant pump bolts.
^ Tighten the coolant pump bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

3. Install the throttle body heater outlet hose to the radiator.

4. Install the drive belt tensioner to the coolant pump.
^ Tighten the drive belt tensioner bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the accessory drive belt.
