Steering Column - Installation
Installation Procedure1. Position the steering column assembly (2) into the vehicle and insert the lower steering shaft assembly into the upper coupling of the intermediate shaft.
2. Install the cross bar locating bushing (1) on the right hand mounting stud.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the upper steering column bracket nuts to the upper reinforcement assembly (3).
- Tighten the upper steering column bracket nuts to 24 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the lower steering column support plate (1) nuts.
- Tighten the lower steering column support plate nuts to 24 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
5. Turn the steering wheel far enough to the left to gain access to the upper coupling of the intermediate shaft.
6. Install the upper coupling bolt.
- Tighten the upper coupling bolt to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
7. Connect all the electrical connectors (except the SIR) to the instrument panel wiring harness.
8. Remove J 42640 from the steering column.
9. Install the driver knee bolster bracket (1).
10. Install the driver knee bolster trim panel.
11. Install the steering wheel inflator module.
12. Perform the SIR Diagnostic System Check.
13. Perform the SWPS plausibility test.
