Locking Rod Replacement - Front Door

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the trim panel.
2. Remove the water deflector.
3. Use side cutters to cut off the outside handle rod-to-lock clip from the lock.
4. Unscrew the remainder of the clip from the outside handle rod. Discard the clip.




5. Remove the door handle clips (1) from the lock rod and the handle rod. Remove the rods from the door handle.




6. Remove the rods from the retainer clips (1).
7. Remove the lock assembly bolts.
8. Remove the lock assembly and rods from the door.
9. Remove the locking rod from the lock.
10. Remove the locking rod.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the inside locking rod (4) to the lock. Push in and rotate the rod through the clip in order to secure the rod.
2. Install the lock assembly and rods.
3. Install the lock assembly bolts.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the door lock assembly bolts (5).
4.1. Start with the top bolt.
4.2. Tighten these bolts in a clockwise direction.

Tighten
Tighten the door lock assembly bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




5. Install the lock rod and handle rod to the door handle.
6. Install the door handle clips (1) to the lock rod and the handle rod.




7. Position the outside door handle rod in the clip in order to eliminate any free play in the outside door handle.
8. Snap the clip cover closed over the threaded outside door handle rod.
9. Install the water deflector.
10. Install the trim panel.
