Drive Pinion Disassemble

^ Tools Required
- J 42162 Side Gear Compressor
- J 42164 Pinion Gear Holder
- J 42166 Front Pinion Bearing Remover
- J 42172 Bearing Race Installer/Spanner Wrench
- J 42194 Bearing Race Remover





1. Remove the pinion nut using the J 42172 and the J 42164.





2. Position the pinion housing into a press.
3. Use the J 42162 and a hydraulic press in order to remove the pinion shaft and bearing from the housing.

Important: The spacer is specific for the bearing set and must be used in order to achieve the proper bearing preload. The pinion bearings and spacer must be replaced as a set.





4. Remove the nut (1), bearing (2), spacer (3), and pinion shaft (5) from the housing (4).





5. Install the J 42166 onto the pinion shaft and bearing.
6. Use the J 42162, J 42166, and a hydraulic press in order to remove the bearing from the shaft.





7. Use the J 42194 and a hydraulic press in order to remove the bearing race from the housing.





8. Use the J 42194 and a hydraulic press in order to remove bearing race from the housing.
