Infl Rst Steering Wheel Module Replacement



REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Tools Required
J-44298 Driver Air Bag Removal Tool






1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Position the steering wheel to its lowest position, if tilt steering.
3. On back side of steering wheel there are four openings/holes for removing the driver inflator module.
4. Turn the steering wheel until two of the opening/holes are on top.
5. Adjust and install J 44298 into two of the holes.

IMPORTANT: The air bag removal tool must be seated all the way in to perform properly.

6. Push the handle back towards IP releasing the two spring loaded fasteners at the same time.
7. Turn the steering wheel and repeat the same steps for the other two opening/holes.






8. Pull the module gently away from the steering wheel.

IMPORTANT: Note the driver inflator wire routing positions, the redundant control routing positions, and the horn wire routing positions for the correct re-assembly.






9. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (4) from the driver frontal air bag electrical connector.
10. Rotate the horn contact lead counterclockwise 1/4 turn (located in the center of the steering wheel).
11. Remove the horn contact lead (2).
12. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (5).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE






1. Push in and rotate the horn contact, turning 1/4 turn clockwise to lock in place.
2. Connect the inflator module electrical connector and CPA (4).

IMPORTANT: Route the driver inflator wires, the redundant control wires, and the horn wires correctly.

3. Align the driver inflator module fasteners to the steering column fastener holes.
4. Install the module to the steering wheel by pushing on both the right and left sides of the inflator module until the retaining springs engage.
5. Check the operation of the horn. If the horn doesn't work, remove the module and check the wire connection.
6. Enable the SIR system.
