Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Service Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

2. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.

3. Remove the 3 retainers and the right engine splash shield. Cut the tie strap.

Important
The area between the release collar (2) and the adapter fitting (3) must be clean and free of dirt in order for the collar to move forward when disconnecting the lines.

4. Clean the release collar (2) on each of the oil cooler lines at the adapter fittings.

Important
Various tools including flat bladed screwdrivers can be used for releasing the oil cooler lines in the next step. In addition, tools such as J 38778, Door Trim Pad Clip Remover, or J 42974, Quick Connect Release Tool, may also be used, however, these are not essential tools for this recall.

5. Using two flat bladed screwdrivers or equivalent, move the release collar (2) in the direction of the arrow on the collar (towards the adapter fitting) (3). Then while holding the collar in that position, pull firmly on the oil cooler line (1) to remove it from the adapter.

6. Remove the engine oil filter (2) and allow the oil to drain.

7. Unscrew the fitting (3) attaching the oil cooler adapter (4) to the filter adapter (1).

8. Remove the adapter (4) and the 0-ring (5).

9. Position the new 0-ring and adapter to the filter adapter.

10. Install the fitting.

Tighten

Tighten fitting to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).

11. Inspect the male fitting (1), the female fitting (3), and the release collar (2) for the following conditions:

^ Nicks

^ Scratches

^ Flat spots

^ Damaged 0-rings

^ Damaged release collar

12. Align the fitting on the oil cooler line with the fitting on the adapter.

Important
Verify the quick connections by trying to pull the hose assembly out of the fitting. Use a firm hand tug. Repeat this step if the connector is pulled apart.

13. Push the fitting together until a definite snap and a solid stop are felt. Repeat this on the other oil cooler line.

14. Install a new oil filter.

15. Install the right engine splash shield and retainers. Install a new tie strap.

16. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly.

Tighten

Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (103 lb ft).

18. Recheck the engine oil level and refill as necessary.
