Steering Wheel Module Replacement
INFLATABLE RESTRAINT STEERING WHEEL MODULE REPLACEMENTREMOVAL PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
- Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
- Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3.Rotate the steering wheel one half turn to the right to access the steering wheel inflator module screws.
2. Remove the screws from the back of the steering wheel inflator module using a TORX(R) driver.
3. Remove the steering wheel inflator module (1) from the steering wheel (3).
4. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the electrical connector on the steering wheel inflator module.
5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the steering wheel inflator module.
6. Disconnect the horn ground lead from the steering wheel.
7. Rotate the horn contact lead counterclockwise 1/4 turn in order to remove the horn contact lead from the steering column shaft tower.
8. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Rotate the steering wheel 1/2 turn to the left in order to center the steering wheel.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the screws to the back of the steering wheel inflator module (1) using a TORX(R) driver.
Tighten the screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Rotate the horn contact lead clockwise 1/4 turn in order to install the horn contact lead to the steering column shaft tower.
4. Connect the horn ground lead to the steering wheel.
5. Connect the electrical connector to the back of the steering wheel inflator module.
6. Install the connector position assurance (CPA) to the steering wheel inflator module.
7. Position the screws in the steering wheel inflator module to the retaining holes on the steering wheel.
8. Install the inflator module to the steering wheel by firmly pressing the module into place until fully seated.
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3.
