Valve Cover: Service and Repair




Cylinder Head Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure





Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution Battery Disconnect Caution.

1. Remove the fuel pump fuse.
2. Start the engine and repeat cranking until the remaining fuel in the fuel line is all consumed.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Drain the engine coolant.
5. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement Service and Repair.




6. Remove the coolant reservoir. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement Service and Repair.
7. Remove the front support bracket retaining bolt and the front support bracket.




8. Remove the air filter housing.




9. Remove the rear support bracket retaining bolts and the rear support bracket.
10. Remove the ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement Service and Repair in Engine Controls-2.5L.




11. Remove the cylinder head cover bolts and cylinder head cover.
12. Remove the cylinder head cover gasket.

Installation Procedure




1. Discard used cylinder head gasket and install new one.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the cylinder head cover and bolts.

Tighten the cylinder head cover bolts to 13 Nm (115 lb in).




3. Install the ignition coils.

Tighten the ignition coil retaining bolts to 6-8 Nm (53-71 lb in).




4. Install the rear support bracket.

* Tighten the rear support bracket remaining bolt -intake side to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
* Tighten the rear support bracket retaining bolt -exhaust side to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).




5. Install the air filter housing.

Tighten the air filter housing bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb in).




6. Install the front support bracket.

Tighten the front support bracket retaining bolt to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).




7. Install the coolant reservoir. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement Service and Repair.

Tighten the coolant reservoir retaining bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).




8. Discard used intake manifold gaskets and install new ones.
9. Tighten the intake manifold retaining nuts and bolts. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement Service and Repair.

* Tighten the 7 intake manifold retaining bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
* Tighten the 4 intake manifold retaining nuts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
* Tighten the 2 bolts on the intake manifold support bracket to 12 Nm (106 lb in).

10. Install the fuel pup fuse.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
12. Refill the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Service and Repair.
