Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

1985---86
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove engine cover and air cleaner, then drain cooling system.
3. Remove distributor cap and spark plug wires.
4. Disconnect ESC electrical connector, then remove distributor.
5. Remove detent and accelerator cables, then the A/C compressor rear brace, if equipped.
6. Remove transmission and engine oil filler tubes at alternator brace.
7. On models equipped with A/C, remove A/C idler pulley from alternator brace.
8. On all models, remove alternator brace, then disconnect fuel line from carburetor.
9. Disconnect necessary vacuum lines and electrical connectors from carburetor.
10. Remove air injection hoses and brackets from manifold.
11. Disconnect heater hose from manifold, then remove manifold attaching bolts and the manifold.
12. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Remove all traces of old sealant from cylinder head, block and manifold.
b. Install gaskets on cylinder heads and apply a 3/16 inch bead of RTV sealant to front and rear ridges of cylinder case. Extend sealant 1/2 inch up each cylinder head to seal and retain side gaskets.
c. Apply suitable sealant at water passages.
d. Torque manifold attaching bolts to specifications in sequence shown,
