1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Drain oil pan, then disconnect starter wiring.
4. Remove flywheel shield, then the starter motor.
5. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
6. Disconnect all exhaust hangers.
7. Remove oil pan attaching bolts and the oil pan, Fig. 10.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Prior to installation, ensure sealing surfaces on pan, cylinder block and front cover are clean and free of oil.
b. If reinstalling old pan, ensure all RTV has been removed, paying particular attention to the blind attaching holes.
c. On 1985 models, apply a 1/8 inch bead of RTV sealant to entire oil pan sealing flange.
d. On 1986---87 models, apply suitable sealant to oil pan flange and block as shown in Fig. 11.
