Compressor Shaft Seal: Service and Repair

Tools Required:
J 23128-A Seal Seat Installer & Remover
J 34614 Shaft Seal Protector

Remove or Disconnect

1. Recover refrigerant. Refer to "Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling, Adding Oil, Evacuating and Recharging Procedures".
2. Drive belt.
3. Passenger-side electric cooling fan.
4. Install a piece of cardboard where electric cooling fan was to protect radiator.
5. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
6. Passenger-side tire and wheel.
7. Passenger-side engine splash shield.
8. A/C clutch coil.
9. A/C compressor shaft seal retainer ring, using snap ring pliers.
10. Install J 23128-A and remove A/C compressor shaft seal.

Install or Connect

1. Dip the new seal in clean 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
2. A/C compressor shaft seal to J 23128-A.
3. J 34614 to compressor shaft.
4. A/C compressor shaft seal.
5. Remove J 23128-A and J 34614.
6. A/C compressor shaft seal retainer ring, using snap ring pliers.
7. A/C clutch coil.
8. Passenger-side engine splash shield.
9. Passenger-side tire and wheel.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Remove the piece of cardboard.
12. Passenger-side electric cooling fan.
13. Drive belt.
14. Recover refrigerant. Refer to "Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling, Adding Oil, Evacuating and Recharging Procedures".
