SUBJECT:
Trunk Ajar Lamp Illumination
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the deck lid stop bumpers, deck lid seal and scuff trim and if necessary adjusting them. Additionally, it will be necessary to inspect and if necessary enlarge the cutout for the release handle in the carpet inner deck lid cover.
MODELS:
2011 (LX) 300
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a trunk ajar lamp illumination due to the release handle being partially engaged, improper adjustment of vehicle deck lid and/or interference from the deck lid seal or scuff trim.
DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer's VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure.
SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Inspect and ensure safety release handle (1) is loose and has no tension on it (Fig. 1).
2. Check deck lid stop bumpers (1) and ensure they are slightly recessed lower than the horizon line of the over-slam bumpers (2) (Fig. 2).
3. Was either stop bumper protruding higher than the horizon line of the over-slam bumper?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 4
b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 5
4. Adjust the suspect stop bumper(s) (1) by screwing the bumper clockwise until the bumper is slightly lower than the horizon line of the over-slam bumper (2) (Fig. 3)
5. Make sure the deck lid seal is seated all the way down around the trunk flange in the lower deck area and the scuff trim is properly seated by pressing on the seal and scuff trim (Fig. 4).
NOTE:
Verify the decklid fit for gap to fascia (5.5mm mm. / 7mm max.) if adjustment is required. Proper adjustment should allow for deck lid to be statically latched (engage latch once deck lid appears to be closed) without any need of swinging the deck lid down onto the latch. Visually verify decklid flushness is cosmetically appealing in relation to the body side/quarter panels.
6. Inspect and measure the carpet decklid liner safety release handle pass through to see if it meets the minimum dimensions required to function properly (Fig. 5).
NOTE:
Dimensions are relative to the reference line (4) which is located opposite the illustrated side of the release handle.
7. Did the safety release handle cutout meet the minimum dimensions?
a. Yes >>> Return the vehicle to the customer.
b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 8.
8. Carefully cut the carpet across the top edge (3) of the safety release handle away from your hand approximately 5/8~(16mm) dotted line indicates cut pattern (Fig. 5).
9. Carefully cut the carpet across the bottom edge (1) away from your hand approximately 5/8"(16mm) dotted line indicates cut pattern(Fig. 5).
10. Carefully cut the carpet down the outside edge (2) (opposite the reference line) of the safety release cutout away from your hand approximately 1 -7/8~(47mm) dotted line indicates cut pattern(Fig. 5).
11. Gently pull on the cut section of the carpet and use knife to assist in the spots that were not cut through completely. Do not over pull on the cutout.
NOTE:
Ensure that cutout has a clean cut (no fraying; snags, etc.) and removed section is discarded and not left inside vehicle.
POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
