Liftgate Handle/Latch Control Assembly - Inoperative

The liftgate handle and/or control assembly can be bent/distorted while attempting to open the liftgate or flip window when the liftgate handle is in the locked position. This deformation can result in liftgates which cannot be opened or in systems which cannot be locked.
The liftgate outside handle actuator lever (43400) and the lock-out tabs in the control assembly (43170) may be bent/distorted when attempts are made to rotate the liftgate door handle with the system locked.
When encountering inoperative liftgate handles, replace both the handle (43400) and the liftgate latch release control assembly (43170) to preclude repeat service repairs. Removal and installation of these components are outlined in the 1985 Ranger/Bronco II Shop Manual Section 44-41-1 through 7.
