Timing Chain: Service and Repair

1. Remove front cover as described under ``Front Cover, Replace.''
2. Rotate engine until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC compression stroke and timing marks are aligned, Fig. 7.
3. Remove attaching bolt and washer from camshaft sprocket, then remove camshaft and crankshaft sprockets with timing chain.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Align timing marks when installing timing chain, Fig. 7. Before installing camshaft sprocket bolt, check for damage and blockage, as this bolt has a drilled oil passage. Torque camshaft sprocket bolt to 41 to 51 ft. lbs. After installing, apply engine oil to timing chain and sprockets.
