Brake Pad: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Drain approximately {1/3} of brake fluid from master cylinder.
2. Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove wheel.
3. Remove brake pad pin retainer, then disengage anti-rattle spring from brake pads, Fig. 1.
4. Remove brake pad pins and anti-rattle spring, then pull brake pads and shims out of caliper. Do not discard shims found behind inner brake pad.
INSTALLATION
1. Push piston back fully into caliper bore.
2. Apply suitable brake grease to both sides of inner shim and to back of inner brake pad.
3. Install brake pads and shims, ensuring shims are positioned correctly.
4. Install brake pad pins, anti-rattle spring and pin retainer.
5. Install wheel and lower vehicle, then check and adjust master cylinder fluid level as required.
