QUICK TEST - SHOP MANUAL CORRECTION 88-6-18

FORD: 1988 FESTIVA

This article is being republished in its entirety to correct the wire color code called out in Step 1-d of TSB Article 88-1-17.

ISSUE: The electronic fuel control system "Quick Test" procedure for using the Super Star II Tester is incorrect as published in the Festiva Shop Manual, Section 29-01 C-8. Using the existing procedure will generate incorrect service codes or possibly no service codes.

ACTION: If service is required, use the following procedure when performing the "Quick Test" with a Super Star II Tester.

FIGURE 18:

1. Attach adapter harness to Super Star II Tester (007-00028) and vehicle harness as follows.

a. Connect "A" to "D", Figure 18.

b. Attach a jumper wire from the STI single pin connector of the Super Star II Tester ("B") to battery ground, Figure 18.

NOTE: The jumper wire is not included. The jumper wire must be fabricated.

c. Connect "C" to battery ground, Figure 18.

d. Connect red single pin connector (spade) of adapter harness ("E") to the vehicle self-test single pin connector (blue/yellow wire), Figure 18.

e. Leave "F" disconnected.

f. Connect "G" to the vehicle self-test six (6) pin connector, Figure 18.

2. Switch Super Star II Tester to "MECS" and "SLOW CODE" positions.

3. Position the "HOLD/TEST" button to the "HOLD" location.

4. Position the power switch to the "PWR" location.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

NOTE: Key On-Engine Off (KOEO) self-test is the only self-test that can be performed.

6. Wait two (2) seconds, then depress the "HOLD/TEST" button to the "TEST" position.

7. Record service codes and service as required.

NOTE: The system does not have a pass code (e.g., code 11 for EEC systems). The Super Star II Tester will show no codes to indicate the system is OK.
