SUBJECT: Dealer Service Action 88S41 - Automatic Transmission Floor Shift Console Wiring Harness
VEHICLES AFFECTED
Certain 1989 Probe cars with automatic transmissions built from Job #1 (January 4, 1988) through February 17, 1988. (Affected VIN's before number 102845).
REASON FOR SERVICE ACTION
Potential grounding of the transmission shift control wiring harness.
A metal edge in the gear selector mechanism may rub the wires of the transmission mode (NORM-POWER) switch. This could cause an electrical short which could cause one or more of the following:
- inoperable taillights.
- transmission locked in "Power" mode.
- transmission locked in "Manual Shift" mode.
- instrument cluster lights 'fixed' on full bright.
Inoperative taillights may make the car more difficult to see from the rear at night.
