Cooling System: Description and Operation

Manual Transaxle
A single normally closed relay supplies power to the fan motor. The fan motor is controlled by the coolant temperature switch. When the air conditioning is being used, the wide-open throttle-A/C cutoff relay controls the cooling fan relay to operate the fan. An electric signal is sent to the ECA to maintain idle quality.

Electronic Automatic Transmission
A two-speed cooling fan is used on these models. The cooling fan relay (CFR) and high speed fan relay (HSFR) combine to provide both speeds. The CFR produces the low speed operation. The HSFR provides high speed operation when excessive temperature is reached, or when the A/C compressor is operating.
