Removal/Installation
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Raise, then properly support vehicle.
3. Remove wheel and tire assemblies.
4. Separate tie rods from steering knuckles.
5. Remove plastic dust shield from both sides of lower inner fender.
6. Pull back dust boot and have a helper rotate steering column shaft until clamp bolt becomes accessible, then lock steering column.
7. Place an alignment mark between steering column pinion shaft and the intermediate shaft lower universal joint.
8. Remove clamp bolt from steering column intermediate shaft lower universal joint.
9. Disconnect solenoid valve, then the power steering pressure switch electrical connectors.
10. Disconnect three hydraulic lines from steering gear. Discard the two copper washers from each fitting. Position hydraulic lines aside.
11. Remove steering gear mount bolts, then lower the steering gear until it clears bulkhead. Slide the steering gear toward the right until the lefthand tie rod clears the left lower control arm. Then, slide steering gear to the left and remove from vehicle.
12. Reverse procedure to install. Tightening steering gear mount bolts to specifications. Torque steering column intermediate shaft lower universal joint clamp bolt to 13-20 ft. lbs. When connecting hydraulic lines to steering gear, install new copper washers.
