Evaporative Emissions System: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System prevents escape of fuel vapors to atmosphere under hot soak and engine "OFF" conditions. System also controls purging of stored vapors from charcoal canister to engine for burning.

OPERATION
System directs fuel tank vapors to the canister. Activated charcoal within the canister holds and stores vapors until they are purged into the induction system. Purging is PCM through its control of canister purge solenoid valve.

CONSTRUCTION
System consists of a charcoal canister, purge solenoid, restrictor, rollover/vent valve, two-way check valve, and vapor separator.
