Child Seat Tether Attachment: Service and Repair

Installation
Some child safety seats supply a tether strap to secure the seat in the vehicle. Anchor hardware must be installed to use a tether strap. The child safety seat also must be placed in a rear seat position. To install anchor hardware to accommodate a tether strap:

1. Open the liftgate and remove the cargo net (if equipped).
2. Remove the enclosure plugs from the trunk end trim.

3. Insert a 10 mm (0.4 inch) spacer between the anchor bracket and the rear wall panel of the luggage compartment.

WARNING: SOME CHILD RESTRAINTS SUPPLY A NON-METRIC BOLT WITH A DIFFERENT THREAD. DO NOT USE A NON-METRIC BOLT AS IT MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE TO SCREW IT ALL THE WAY INTO THE HOLE, RESULTING IN INADEQUATE RETENTION OF THE CHILD RESTRAINT.

4. Install an 8 mm bolt, making sure that at least five threads engage in the panel. Be sure the anchor bracket is within a 30 degree angle as indicated.

WARNING:

- WHEN THE ANCHOR BRACKET IS NOT INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ABOVE DIRECTIONS, THE DEGREE OF EFFICIENCY OF THE ANCHOR IS REDUCED. BE SURE TO INSTALL THE ANCHOR BRACKET ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS.

- IF THE ANCHOR BOLT(S) ARE EVER REMOVED, THE HOLE(S) MUST BE SEALED TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.

5. Install the cargo net (if equipped).
