Child Seat Tether Attachment: Service and Repair

NOTE: The child safety seat tether attachment must be attached to a child safety belt anchor tether bolted to the rear wall panel.

Removal
1. Open the liftgate and remove the luggage compartment hold down net (if equipped).

WARNING: IF THE CHILD SAFETY BELT ANCHOR TETHER BOLT IS REMOVED, THE HOLE MUST BE SEALED TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.

2. Remove the child safety belt anchor tether bolt cover, anchor bolt, bracket, and spacer from the rear wall panel.
3. Replace the enclosure plug on the luggage compartment rear cover.





Installation
Some child safety seats supply a tether strap to secure the seat in the vehicle. A child safety belt anchor tether must be installed to use a tether strap on a child safety seat in a rear seat position. A child safety seat used in a front seat position must be tethered to a rear seat safety belt. Install child safety belt anchor tether to accommodate a tether strap as follows:
1. Open the liftgate and remove the luggage compartment hold down net (if equipped).
2. Remove the enclosure plug from the luggage compartment rear cover.
3. Insert the 10 mm (0.4 inch) spacer, provided with the child safety belt anchor tether between the anchor bracket and the rear wall panel of the luggage compartment.

WARNING: SOME CHILD RESTRAINTS SUPPLY A NON-METRIC BOLT WITH A DIFFERENT THREAD. DO NOT USE A NON-METRIC BOLT AS IT MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE TO SCREW IT ALL THE WAY INTO THE HOLE, RESULTING IN INADEQUATE RETENTION OF THE CHILD RESTRAINT.





4. Install the 8 mm bolt provided with the child safety belt anchor tether, making sure that at least five threads engage in the panel. Be sure the anchor bracket is within a 30 degree angle as indicated. Tighten the child safety anchor tether bolt to 38-78 Nm (28-58 lb-ft).

WARNING:

- WHEN THE CHILD SAFETY BELT ANCHOR TETHER IS NOT INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ABOVE DIRECTIONS, THE DEGREE OF EFFICIENCY OF THE CHILD SAFETY BELT ANCHOR TETHER IS REDUCED. BE SURE TO INSTALL THE CHILD SAFETY BELT ANCHOR TETHER ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS.

- IF THE CHILD SAFETY BELT ANCHOR TETHER BOLT(S) ARE EVER REMOVED, THE HOLE(S) MUST BE SEALED TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.

5. Install the luggage compartment hold down net (if equipped).
