Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Discharge the A/C system.
3. Disconnect the A/C compressor to condenser discharge line at the A/C condenser core inlet fitting. Discard the O-ring.
4. Disconnect the jumper line at the A/C condenser core outlet fitting. Discard the O-ring.
5. Remove the center air bag sensor and bracket cover and the two center air bag sensor and bracket bolts and position the center air bag sensor and bracket out of the way.
WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.
6. Remove the two bolts, nut, screw, clip, and the hood latch support brace from the vehicle.
7. Lift the hood latch out of the radiator grille area and position it out of the way.
8. Disconnect the A/C condenser fan switch electrical connector.
9. Remove the four A/C condenser core bracket bolts.
10. Lift the A/C condenser core to allow the A/C condenser studs to clear their mounts and remove the A/C condenser core from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
To install reverse the removal procedure. Tighten the jumper line at the A/C condenser core outlet fitting to 10-19 N.m (87-174 lb-in). Tighten the A/C compressor to condenser discharge line fitting to 15-24 N.m (11-18 lb-ft).
NOTE: Apply refrigerant oil to the new 0-rings prior to their installation on the A/C condenser inlet and outlet port fittings.
NOTE: If installing a new A/C condenser core, add the proper amount of Motorcraft Refrigerant Oil YN-12b or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B to the high-pressure outlet port of the A/C compressor.
