Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

REMOVAL




1. Remove the A/C evaporator housing assembly.




2. Remove the six case clips securing the A/C evaporator upper case to the A/C evaporator lower case.
3. Remove the A/C evaporator upper case.
4 Remove the two A/C evaporator temperature control thermostat screws and the A/C evaporator temperature control thermostat.

NOTE: Note the position of the A/C evaporator temperature control thermostat capillary tube prior to removal to aid in installation.

5. Remove the A/C evaporator core from the A/C evaporator lower case.
6. Remove the A/C evaporator case mounting plate from between the A/C evaporator core inlet and outlet tubes.
7. Pull the tube insulation over the A/C evaporator expansion valve bulb and the evaporator to compressor suction line. Discard the tube insulation.
8. Remove the A/C evaporator expansion valve bulb clamp securing the equalizer line to the evaporator to compressor suction line.




9. Disconnect the A/C evaporator core inlet and outlet fittings and remove the A/C evaporator expansion valve. Discard the O-ring.

INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: Replacement A/C evaporator cores do not come equipped with an A/C evaporator core screen. Transfer the A/C evaporator core screen from the old A/C evaporator core to the new A/C evaporator core.

NOTE: If installing a new A/C evaporator core, add the proper amount of Motorcraft Refrigerant Oil YN-12b or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-MIC231-B to the A/C evaporator core.

NOTE: Ensure that the A/C evaporator temperature control thermostat capillary tube is installed correctly on the A/C evaporator core as noted during removal.
