Fluid - M/T: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: The speedometer cable sleeve is used as a dipstick to check the transmission fluid level. To check and adjust the transmission fluid level, use the following procedure:1. Loosen the speedometer cable retainer on the speedometer cable sleeve and slide it up the speedometer cable.
NOTE: Pliers may be necessary to loosen the speedometer cable retainer.
2. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the speedometer cable sleeve.
3. Remove the speedometer cable sleeve bolt.
4. Remove the speedometer cable sleeve and speedometer gear assembly.
5. Remove all traces of transmission fluid from the speedometer gear and speedometer cable sleeve.
6. Insert the speedometer cable sleeve into its bore in the flywheel housing.
Speedometer Gear:
7. Remove the speedometer cable sleeve and check the transmission fluid level using the indicator mark on the speedometer cable sleeve.
8. If the transmission fluid level is below the low (L) mark, add the required amount of specified transmission fluid through the speedometer cable sleeve bore.
CAUTION: Do not fill the transmission above the full (F) mark.
9. Inspect the speedometer gear O-ring. If there is any sign of damage or deterioration, replace it.
NOTE: If there is any doubt about the condition of the speedometer gear O-ring, it must be replaced.
10. Install the speedometer cable sleeve and speedometer gear as an assembly.
11. Install the speedometer cable sleeve bolt. Tighten the speedometer cable sleeve bolt to 8-11 Nm (71-97 inch lbs.).
12. Connect the speedometer cable and hand tighten the speedometer cable retainer on the speedometer cable sleeve.
