Fill Procedures
DESCRIPTIONUpon engine start-up, follow these Fill Procedures to minimize excessive steering system noise due to air trapped in the system after service.
INITIAL FILL
1. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position. Do not turn the steering wheel during initial fill.
2. Fill the power steering pump reservoir to the FULL mark with fresh fluid.
3. Disconnect the distributor electrical connectors.
4. Crank the engine for 5-10 seconds. Do not allow the power steering pump reservoir to empty while cranking.
5. Recheck and refill the power steering pump reservoir after cranking. Repeat the procedure until the fluid level in the power steering pump reservoir remains constant.
6. Connect the distributor electrical connectors.
FINAL FILL
1. Start the engine and allow it to run for several minutes.
2. Rotate the steering wheel fully left and right from stop to stop.
3. Turn off the engine and check the fluid level in the power steering pump reservoir. Add fluid if necessary.
4. Purge the system of air if there is noise and aeration.
