Brushes

1. Inspect the generator brushes for wear.
2. If the generator brushes are worn down to the wear limit line, replace the generator brushes as follows:
^ Unsolder the pigtails from the Voltage Regulator (VR).
^ Remove the generator brushes.
^ Solder the new brush pigtails to the VR.







3. Use a spring pressure gauge to push each generator brush into its holder until the tip of the generator brush projects 2mm (0.079 inch) and read the pressure.
4. If the spring force is not between 2.9-4.3 N (10.6-15.6 oz), replace the generator brush spring.
