^ Rotunda Interior Auto Glass Cut-Out Knife Kit 164-R2450 or equivalent.
^ Razor blade knife.
^ Installation Kit E0AZ-19562-A or equivalent.
^ Alcohol free glass cleaner in a spray bottle.
^ Latex gloves.
^ EC7784 lubricant in a spray bottle or equivalent.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the windshield wiper pivot arms by removing the windshield wiper pivot arm nut and pulling straight up.
2. Pull up to unsnap and remove the lower windshield outside moulding.
3. Pull up at the bottom corner and peel back the upper windshield outside moulding to remove.
4. Pull down the interior trim moulding from the front door opening at the front body pillar and remove the interior trim panel from the front body pillar.
WARNING: TO PREVENT GLASS SPLINTERS FROM ENTERING EYES OR CUTTING HANDS, WEAR SAFETY GLASSES AND HEAVY GLOVES WHEN CUTTING GLASS FROM THE VEHICLE.
5. Use Rotunda Interior Auto Glass Cut-Out Knife Kit 164-R2450 or equivalent, to cut the urethane sealant around the windshield glass.
NOTE: Lubricate the urethane sealant to be cut with water to aid the Rotunda Interior Auto Glass Cut-Out Knife Kit 164-R2450 or equivalent, when cutting the urethane sealant.
6. Insert the inflatable pump bag at the top of the windshield glass and gently push the windshield outward 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) from the inside of the vehicle to ensure the urethane seal is broken. Use the razor blade knife to cut any urethane sealant that may be holding down the windshield glass.
7. Remove the windshield glass.
8. Trim the remaining old urethane on the pinch weld to within 1.0-1.5 mm (0.04-0.06 inch) thickness using a suitable tool. When completed, the old urethane surface should be smooth and free of cuts and contamination.
9. Check the pinch weld for damaged sheet metal, raised sheet metal at the spot welds, rust or foreign material which may cause glass damage. Service the pinch weld sheet metal.
10. If the same windshield glass is to be installed, remove all the old urethane from the windshield glass.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Always wear nitrile gloves when using the chemicals for installation.
NOTE: Keep glass and body surfaces free of dirt, water, and oil. Do not touch coated surfaces with hands.
1. Thoroughly clean the inside of the windshield glass with an alcohol free glass cleaner. Then dry set the windshield glass into the opening and use tape on all four sides to mark the proper setting position of the glass, then remove the windshield glass.
2. Apply Urethane Glass Prep (Part of E0AZ-19562-A) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSB-M5B280-C, in a 15 mm (0.6 inch) wide application around the entire outer edge of the inside of the windshield glass. Immediately wipe the cleaner off the windshield glass. Repeat the application and immediately wipe off glass.
NOTE: Wipe off the Urethane Glass Prep (Part of E0AZ-19562-A) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSB-M5B280-C, immediately after application because it flash dries. The Urethane Glass Prep must be applied twice.
3. Using the supplied wool applicator, apply Urethane Glass Primer (Part of E0AZ-19562-A) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSB-M2G314-B, in a 15 mm (0.6 inch) wide application around the entire outer edge of the inside of the windshield glass. Allow 10 minutes drying time for the primer.
WARNING: IF PRIMER GETS ON YOUR HANDS, REMOVE IT IMMEDIATELY.
4. Using the supplied wool applicator, apply Urethane Metal Primer or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSB-M2G234-C, to the pinch weld of the vehicle. Allow approximately 10 minutes drying time for the primer.
5. Install open cell Vinyl Foam Tape C6AZ-19627-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M3G77-A, to the pinch weld. Start the vinyl foam tape at the center of the bottom pinch weld 8 mm (0.310 In) and lay it around the entire pinch weld from the inside edge. Cut the tape and butt the ends together.
6. Cut the nozzle of the urethane canister so that it lays a bead of urethane 16 mm (0.625 Inch) high and 8 mm (0.310 Inch) wide.
7. Starting at the bottom center of the pinch weld, lay a uniform bead of urethane along the entire outside edge of the open cell vinyl foam tape 16 mm (0.625 inch) in height and 8 mm (0.310 inch) wide. Ensure that the bead of urethane is smooth and even. If necessary, reshape the bead with a suitable tool taking care not to trap air in the bead.
8. Open the windows to prevent the windshield glass from being pushed out by air pressure if a door is closed.
9. Lift and center the windshield glass into position and push in lightly to compress the urethane.
10. Clean any excess urethane from the windshield glass or pinch weld.
11. Press in the upper windshield outside moulding starting at a bottom corner and firmly pressing the moulding into the urethane in between the windshield glass and the body. Snap the lower windshield outside moulding into place.
CAUTION:
^ The windshield outside moulding must be installed before the urethane sealant has hardened.
^ Use only Urethane/Adhesive (Part of E0AZ-19562-A), or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSB-M2G316-B to service water and air leaks of the urethane sealant.
^ After replacing the urethane installed glass, the vehicle should not be driven until the urethane has cured. The curing time at temperatures above 13°C (55°F) and relative humidity above 50% is 12-24 hours (decreasing cure at higher temperatures and lower humidities). Refer to the detailed instructions provided by the manufacturer in the kit. Inadequate curing of the urethane may adversely affect the strength of the urethane sealant bond.
12. Install the windshield wiper pivot arms. Adjust the windshield wiper pivot arms as necessary. Tighten the windshield wiper pivot arm nuts to 10-15 Nm (8-11 Lb-Ft).
