Wiper Switch: Service and Repair






REMOVAL

WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR AIR BAG MODULE DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY AIR BAG MODULE SYSTEM COMPONENT.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute for the backup power supply to be depleted.
2. Remove the steering wheel.
3. Remove the three steering column shroud screws.
4. Separate the upper and lower portions of the steering column shroud.
5. Remove the steering column shroud from the steering column.





6. Apply two strips of tape across the air bag sliding correct to prevent accidental rotation.





7. Remove the three air bag sliding contact screws and pull the air bag sliding contact off the steering column.
8. Remove the air bag sliding contact ground wire screw.
9. Disconnect the air bag sliding contact electrical connector.
10. Remove the air bag sliding contact.





11. Remove the three multi-function switch screws.
12. Disconnect the multi-function switch electrical connectors.
13. Slide the multi-function switch off the steering column.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: If the air bag sliding contact has been accidentally rotated, the air bag sliding contact alignment must be adjusted.

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure noting the following:
2. Tighten the air bag sliding contact screws to 2-3 Nm (18-26 inch lbs.).
